Who am I? I’m Jessica Atcheson, an editor, writer, and activist—not to mention proofreader, knitter, obsessive checker of e-mail, enjoyer of sun and grass and rocky summits and the sound of water, voracious consumer of good ideas and good books, and all sorts more. I live in Boston and currently work as a writer/editor at a nonprofit dedicated to advancing human rights.
Why did I start this blog? Well, I’ve got some things to say (write) and share. I thought some people might want to hear (read) them. And it seemed like a fun way to establish some kind of regular, sustainable writing-related practice.
What’s with the boots? I think there’s two answers (to two different questions) here.
The answer to one of the questions is that it (the title) comes from an amazing song: “Evolve,” by Ani DiFranco, one of my sheroes.
The answer to the other question is that I fell in love with a pair of brown Doc Marten boots I bought in London in high school and wore them until they had been resoled several times and were being held together with duct tape and super glue. The boots featured in the header image are actually the second generation of these boots. In pretty rough shape themselves, they’ve actually been retired from use at this point in favor of a pair of Blundstones. But generation 1, generation 2, and now my Blundstones have been all over with me in various adventures (some sure to show up in this blog).
